Bicipital Groove Surgery
The most common treatments for biceps tendon problems include a biceps tenotomy and a biceps tenodesis.
Bicipital groove surgery. Bicipital tendonitis the long head of biceps tendon runs in a groove at the front of the shoulder bicipital groove. The opening angle and medial wall angle of the bicipital groove was measured for each patient. A tenotomy means to cut the tendon of the long head of the biceps so that the tendon retracts back into the arm and away from the shoulder where it can cause pain. In some cases surgery is also.
A torn transverse humeral ligament can also lead to biceps tendonitis. Muscle moves towards the elbow popeye. The groove is bordered on three sides by bone the bicipital ridge with a roof covered by the transverse humeral ligament. Inflammation of the biceps tendon within the intertubercular bicipital groove is called primary biceps.
When examining the biceps region radiologically in cases of bicipital tenosynovitis there will be significant calcification of the tendon and presence of bone spurs in the intertubercular groove. There is minimal loss of function with a long head rupture because the short head of biceps remains attached to the coracoid process. The tendon can become inflamed and damaged either through overuse weightlifting and overhead sports or simply with time. Biceps tenodesis is a surgery to repair the biceps tendon.
At the time of surgery the biceps tendon was classified as normal inflamed partially ruptured or ruptured and the findings correlated to the bicipital groove measurements. The most common type of biceps tendon tear is a detachment partial or complete of one of the biceps tendons within the shoulder joint. Surgical treatments of the biceps tendon may be considered. Biceps tendinitis is a disorder of the tendon around the long head of the biceps muscle.
Occasionally the soft tissue restraints that maintain the position of the long head of the biceps tendon within the groove can be injured allowing the tendon to sublux or partially dislocate in and out of. There are two attachments of the biceps tendon at the shoulder one within the shoulder joint the long head of the biceps and the other is in front of the shoulder joint the short head of the biceps. This procedure is typically used when the biceps tendon causes pain in and around the shoulder.
